Unable to install kb953463 on Vista Business SP1

The update keeps failing with error 80070641. Even a reboot and retry fails.

I attempted to intall using the full standalone update package as well.
This method fails when the update installer stops responding.

Every other update has installed fine. Any thoughts?

Same here on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition. No love on KB953463
issued on July 8, 2008. Error is same as "Hurricane Andrew's". Be nice if MS
would at least acknowledge this. All other updates that day installed fine.

Yes I have the same issue. Three seperate computers all with Vista Ultimate
32-bit, all have the same error with Windowsupdate and when I try to apply
the manual patch I am told it stopped responding.
Anything to do with the recent Outlook 2007 updates?

I figured it out. Somehow the Windows installer service got corrupted,
specifically Windows Installer Service 4.5. I uninstalled the hotfix, and
the update installed withut a hitch.

I'd try either uninstalling or reinstalling whatever version of the
installer you hve and give it try after that. Hopefully it will solve your
issue as well.

Thanks for the update. I'll remove that hotfix (942288) and try again.

In the mean time, I tried extracting the outlfltr.msp from the manual patch.
When I run that I am told that it cannot access 6c4c0.msi in the
C:\Windows\Installer folder. I went there, sure enough it's there... I run
that MSI and it does something, then when I try running the msp again I now
get a different error, that the Windows Installer has stopped responding.
Not the first time I've had an issue with MSI 4.5 it seems...
