unable to install kb953839 on vista sp1 and sp1 was manually insta

I've read threads about this update and have tried diabling my mcafee
firewall during the install of this activex killbits update. it still didn't
install. I had to manually install the vista sp1 update when it came out.
To date, all other updates (pre and post 8/12 when this update was released)
have been successful. Any ideas on how to get the kb953839 update installed?
