Unable to install MS Office 2007 on virtual WinXP

Hi,

I am trying to install MS Office 2007 onto a WinXP Virtual PC running on
Windows 7 64 bit. When I click on customize not everything is available to
be installed, but it should be since this is the full version of office.

I have searched on Google and through this newsgroup, but see no other
references to this problem. Is there a way around this. I am pretty sure the
vhd is large enough as it is 65 gb. If I had noticed I would not have made
it that large. Checking the C drive after running the WinXP I have 63 gb of
free space.

Thanks,
Norm

Thanks for the reply Mark, yes I am sure it is the full version as
downloaded from TechNet. I have installed it on another operating system
just fine. I don't remember everything that was not available, but will go
back and try it again and make a note. I know that Excel was X'd out along
with the Tools I believe.

Make sure and disable the integration components for the install, then
you can reenable them later.

Hi Robert,

Not sure what the integration components are, but the only things available
to be installed are Visio and the shared components, everything else has a
red x and says not available.

I have never run into this before, I have another virtual install of windows
2000 and office 2003 installed just fine on it.

I may try office 2003 on the Win XP virtual just to see if it will install.

Thanks,
Norm

They're part of XP Mode, already installed. You can go into the XP
Mode settings and disable them there.

XP Mode (with the integration components installed) is special, when
they are active, Windows Virtual PC communicates with the VM via the
RDP protocol for enhanced performance and other benefits.

The Integration components aren't supported for Windows 2000.

>I may try office 2003 on the Win XP virtual just to see if it will install.

It would probably act similarly, when using RDP to communicate, the
installer thinks you're using terminal services, and it blocks the
install because that doesn't match a standalone Office license.
(you're really not using terminal services, so it's okay, but the
installer doesn't know that.)

Robert,

I am not using XP Mode, at least I don't think so. I am using Virtual PC
2007 and a vmd I had before installing Windows 7 64 bit.

Anyway Office 2003 Pro installed just fine and then I did an upgrade to 2007
and even though it would not let me mark for all to be run from my computer
it did install everything. So I think I am good to go now. I have been
running into very unusual problems since getting this computer and I think
it is due to the sata drives being seen as raid and the problems associated
with trying to install and run an operating system on raid drives.
Unfortunately I do use two sata raid 1 drives for my files and this mother
board won't let me mark them separately, so I may install an IDE drive for
my operating systems.

Thanks again for all you help.

Ahh, my mistake sorry! I saw the Virtual WinXP and read XP Mode!

Very strange problem, I've never seen that happen myself, but it's
good you got it going by installing Office 2003 first. I don't think
the RAID issue would effect the Office install.

As for the OS, yes, it can be a pain initially to install Windows on
RAID, but the price is worth it, I think you'd find the normal IDE
drives slower, plus you wouldn't have the protection.

On my PC at home, I run RAID 0 without any ill effects once the
correct drivers are installed. (no protection, but much faster.)

Could that Office 2007 install disk you have be an upgrade and not a
full install disk?

No it was the full install, I had used it to install on another Windows 7 32
bit system.
