Unable to install new driver for VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapto

I connected up this morning and was asked to install updates. However, an
error message popped up saying that it as unable to install. 15 seconds later
it offered to try again. I tried a fresh boot and install, but it failed
again. I don't really want to experiment with this because if I kill my
network driver, I will be out of action for a day at least!

There is an entry in the system error log:

Yeah, I got the same problem too. Now the icon in my taskbar is bugging me
about it.

yes i'm having the same problem...and the update icon is still sitting there!
any suggestions?

I just got the same issue. Mine show it was installed succesfully the first
time but the reminded keeps coming back and when I try to install the update
it fails. Now I have 1 successfull and 2 failed updates showing in my
history. Anyone know how to get rid of all 3 and start over?

Try turning off the firewall that is used in xp. it blocks port access and
since this is an ethernet update it needs to have that access. once it is
installed you can turn back on the firewall

Tried that, but as stated in another post, when logged onto update history I
have 1 installed and now I have 6, YES SIX failed installs in addition to the
successful install. It seems like there is a problem with the program in that
it fails to let updates know that it has installed so it keeps on trying to
instal.

Can't get rid of via rhine 2 ethernet ad
Is there any place at windows help / support that i can click on that will
automatically scan and fix this problem which they have caused for me?
