Unable to install Update KB912812 - Errorcode 0x80242008

The Windows update cannot install the following security update:
Kumulatives Sicherheitsupdate für Internet Explorer unter Windows XP
(KB912812)
It says:
Errorcode: 0x80242008 (I like MS-Errorcodes) and that I can try it again or
search in the database. I cannot find this error-code in the whole
ms-database.
Whats the problem?

dort unter "Bekannte Probleme".

I attempted installation on 6 servers, successful on 2, same failure code on
4. When I compared log files (KB912812.log), I am left to believe that the
install failed because the version number of IEXPLORE.EXE failed the test of
being less than 7.0.0. I confirmed that the version if IEXPLORE.EXE on all
servers is the same 6.0.3790.1830 on all servers.

I have not yet attempted a reinstall.

The common thread is that all the failed servers were upgrades, rather than
new installs.

I too have had a problem for the past 3 months trying to resolve this and
found the answer today here in the discussion group. I'm copying CharliePS
information that was helpful to me. This was a very quick fix!

I had the same problem with windows update for just this one internet
explorer update, it failed everytime. After uninstalling everything I could
and disableing anything I couldn't uninstall I started to get a little upset.
I Decided to undo a chang in the registry that I had made a month ago. Its a
simple change of the default programs folder, I changed it from c: to f: so
any new programs would be installed on the f: drive by default. That fixed
it! Yea. Yu might want to check to see if yours has been changed.Open regedit
from the run box and drill down to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion ,check the key
named "ProgramFilesDir" mine was set to f:\Program Files and I set it back to
c:\Program Files. Good luck.
