I currently have version 4.07 and am unable to update to the current version.
Even unable to udate from 4 to 6 or 7 before installing 8. I get the same
message in all cases--unable to acess the internet. I get this message
although I am on the internet without problem for everything else. I turned
off my Norton's, but that didn't help. How can this be fixed?

Greetings,

I suggest you uninstall any software firewall you may have as even disabling it can sometimes
block applications. However, just to be clear, is Windows Messenger 4.7 working and signing
in?

Just a sidenote, Windows Messenger 4.7 is a separate product from Windows Live Messenger 8.
You'll have both installed on your computer after you install Live Messenger.

Hi,

I see. In that case I suggest fully uninstalling (do not just disable, this is not good
enough) your "Norton's" from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, then reboot when
that's finished and try again.

If it works after that, you can reinstall Norton and more than likely that will be enough to
re-configure it. This has not a rare event,, this happens all the time with these
third-party firewall products.
