Unable to install Vi$ta x64 into Asus M2N-E

Motherboard: Asus M2N-E (chipset: nForce 570 Ultra)
Harddisk: 2 x 250G Seagate in RAID 0 formation

The Installation process would reboot during the last phrase (Completing
Installation). Files were copied successfully into the Vi$ta partition.

I tried using nForce 570 Ultra's x64 SATARaid driver. The installation
process would then blue-screen at the same last phrase. Then it would
coredump.

SO what can I do?

Is Vi$ta x64 designed for Intel motherboards only?

BTW, 32-bit Vi$ta installed without any problem.

Hi, Man-wai Chang ToDie.

No. I've been using it on my EPoX mobos with AMD's 754 and AM2 sockets and
Athlon 64 3200+ and Athlon 64 X2 5000+ CPUs since August 2005, when Vista
was still in beta. My current X2 mobo is MF570sli, which includes the
nForce 570 chipset. Works fine - especially since 64-bit drivers have
finally arrived. (Still waiting for 64-bit applications, but 32-bit apps
run just fine.)

HOW were you installing that driver? And did you enable RAID support in the
BIOS?

The classic symptom, which I first saw when trying to install Win2K on my
SCSI hard drive 7 years ago, is a BSOD with Stop Code 0x7B,
Incompatible_Boot_Device. Is that what you are seeing?

The fix then - and now - is to get those drivers onto a floppy diskette and
have it handy when you boot from DVD to start Setup. The process is
slightly different in Vista from what we did in Win2K/XP, and I've not had
to do it often enough in Vista to remember the steps. But in WinXP, it went
like this: Early in the Setup process you should see a prompt to "Press
<F6> to install drivers for a mass storage controller" or similar language.
Press F6 quickly; the prompt disappears in a few seconds and, if you miss
it, you have to start the boot again. Setup will pretend not to notice the
F6 press and will continue to load the hundreds of files. Finally, it will
stop with instructions for how to use the floppy to install the drivers.

The DVD-ROM knows how to copy files to the hard drive. But drivers for many
of the newer drives are not on the DVD, and Setup fails when it finishes
copying and tries to actually BOOT FROM that hard drive unless drivers are
supplied from the floppy before time to reboot from the drive into minimal
Windows to complete the installation.

M2N-E uses the nF570 Ultra chipset. maybe not the same as nF570SLI.

There is a screen in Vi$ta installation process where you need to choose
the partition to install Vi$ta. That screen has the option "Load
Driver". I hit that option, then <Browse> and install the 15.01 SATA
driver nv64rd.inf. I also updated the BIOS to the lastest beta version 1102.

My RAID 0 is using 2 Seagate 250G harddisks, as well as a SATA DVD burner.

Windows memory test completed without error.

I think it's the SATA RAID driver, which caused the installation to die
in the middle of the last phrase "Completing Installation ...".

Another question:

Do I need to install the nvstor64.inf driver? Every time I tried to load
it, it would blue-screen. My baord is Asus M2N-E.

Hey Man,

Go up to ASUS site and get the latest BIOS. I did this for my ASUS m2n4-sli
board and installed Vista64 just fine. But you do need to update the bios
first.

Already using the latest beta BIOS. And my board M2N-E is not using the
same chipset as M2N4-SLI.

Were you using RAID when you were installing 64-bit Vi$ta?
