Hi Guys,

I am having trouble updating the Windows XP with the latest updates from the
microsoft site. My computer appears to be able to download the information,
but simply fails to install and when the Wndows icon returns it has all the
updates that have not been able to be installed. Some of the updates that
have failed are:
Security Update for Windows XP (KB928843)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB890859)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB914389)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB920683)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB908519)
Update for Windows XP (KB894391)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB935839

There are 99 updates in all that do not wish to load. there are no error
codes, the icon just says that these updates have not been installed.

What should I do, my windows XP is genuine!! please help me, it is quite
frustrating!!

Wow, do I know your frustration. I have been trying to download 78 Updates
for the past couple of days. I have googled and searched and read a lot of
hints, none or which seemed to work.
Here is the error from C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

FATAL: Error: 0x80004002. wuauclt handler: failed to spawn COM server

I found an article that had some info that allowed me to fixed the error by
re-registering dll update files. Worked for me.
http://www.wsus.info/forums/lofivers...php?t6026.html

This is what allowed the Updates to start working:

Re-Register the Windows Update dll files

regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\wuweb.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\wups2.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\wups.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\wuapi.dll

Then restart the Automatic Updates service.

Hope this helps
Jim

I am having the same problem...79 updates will not install. I had a hard
drive crash so I reinstalled XP Pro with SP2. I set the auto updates,
downloaded 79 critical updates and now I cannot get the updates to install
(failed updates with no error message) and I don't want to add anything more
to my computer until it is updated. I tried your 'run' with the dlls
instructions and I got an error message:
LoadLibrary("C:\winnit\system\wwweb.dll)failed. The specific module could
not be found.

what do you suggest next? Should I reinstall XP?

pls help! thanks,
j
