Unable to instill security update KB917422

I've tried to install this update several times, but everytime it fails with
the errorcode: 0x800F0100

What should I do?

I have had the same problem-I had to custom install all my other updates but
this one -KB917422 has been a nightmare! It downloads but doesn't install. I
have looked at the different threads regarding this issue and have tried a
few suggestions-those that are possible for a totally non-tech person and I
haven't had success. (Now not sure if I want to after reading the problems
people are having when they DO install this update) I have pasted below a log
which refers to this file as suggested by another poster so maybe this will
give some insight. (This is the first and last entry in the log as way too
long to post)

81 update , download ok, when install.. all are Failed.

If this is XP and a Repair Installation has been performed :

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation
