I have repaired my XP install and after completing this my explore is very
slow and I am unable to install any windows updates. My explore works fine in
safe mode. I also have stoped, started, registered, and reinstaled wuauserv.
During the last try I recieved the following message:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: wuweb.dll
ModVer: 5.8.0.2469 Offset: 00018003

Hello Chivade,

Download Ccleaner and Dial-aFix

CCleaner
Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com
Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during install.

Do the scans with all the check marks on.
Open Ccleaner and press "Windows" "Aplications" and "Run Cleaner" from the
menu choose 'Issues' and then press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.

Better if is run in safe mode.

Run the above remover in safe mode then Ccleaner on all 3
settings(windows, apps & issues) and clear anything found reboot and see if it
still exists.

Registry - CCleaner even has a built-in Registry Cleaner. It's not the best
(not CCleaner's main function), but it will find invaild registry entries
that most Registry Cleaners will not. Unlike the Disk Cleaners with a
Registry Cleaner, CCleaner does really fast scanning for Registry Issues. The
reason is CCleaner doesn't want to effect Windows performance or effect any
applications. It's better to be safe than sorry!

NOTE - The first time you run CCleaner's Issues scanner you'll have to keep
running it back-to-back until it finds nothing. One scenario is a registry
key may only be a reference pointing to a completely different location in
the registry and when it's removed then that reference link is also noticed
as being invalid on a subsequent scan.
It's generally a good idea to keep running the Issues scan until nothing is
listed.

There is also a third-party fix which has had good results for a number of
folks here:
Dial-a- Fix
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Run this program with all the functions activated in safe mode. --it may
look as if the scan has frozen. DAF is actually doing lots of shoveling and
shuffling, so don't interrupt it.

Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to Download Dial-a-fix

Dial-a-fix is essentially a scripted run through of the standard Microsoft
fixes. But this has been a useful tool.

Is your clock and Time Zone also the Date set properly?

I hope this post is helpful.
Let us know how it works ºut.

Thanks for the reply. I did run all the steps you outlined and everything is
comming up clean but the problem still exist. In saft mode my connection
speed is fine but when I am out of safe mode I can't load any windows updates
and it takes several minuites to load any page if it loadsat all. Should I
try and reinstall XP? If so what will happen to my other applications? Will I
have to reinstall everything? Is there a good backup application I should use
before I reinstall?

Any help is appreicated.

Hello Terence,

Try this if Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from
Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation

I hope that post is helpful.

I have uninstalled the "873339" update...There is
definately a bug in this update
Go to start click CONTROL PANEL then click ADD or REMOVE than put a thick in
show updates and remove
update (KB873339). it shows you that some updates or programs wil be
affected "egnore this"
When removed go to win update and clik Iwill choose update
choose them all exept "KB873339"
and whala' all done
PS>.
If you get automatic update always leve out the above update. IT WORKED
FOR ME
