Hi Andy -
First, it sounds like you're trying to do an offline restore of Exchange (just restoring the database files) versus an online restore of Exchange. Here's a couple things - First, have you marked the databases as being allowed to be overwritten by a restore? (Exchange System Manager | Servers | <servername> | First Storage Group. Right-click on Mailbox Store | Properties. On the database tab, check 'Database may be overwritten by a restore' Second - if you're doing an offline restore, have you tried stopping your Exchange services before starting the restore process? Third - have you tried an online restore? (Don't select the databases under your C: drive - further down, expand your Microsoft Exchange Server and select to restore the First Storage Group . . . -- Chad A. Thanks Chad will try those suggestions tomorrow when back on-site and will
double how I ran restore, tried it several ways. I believe I did try stopping exchange services before restore but got an error message. But will check again. Many thanks Andy "Chad A. Hi Chad,
I marked the database as being allowed to be overwritten. Ran restore from Backup Utility, ticking Log Files, Mailbox Store and Public Folder Store. At the bootom of this screen it does say "If files already exist Do Not replace". Clicked Start Restore, on the nesxt screen it says restore to R-BLRSERVER and I added D:\ as the temporary file location and then ticked Last Restore Set. The back up from states R-BLRSERVER\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group, which looks correct to me. Clicked on OK and restore ran and completed successfully. No problems in report. But still unable to mount the Mailbox store. In the temporary file location there is a file called restore.env(dated today) which I am sure I read somewhere indicates that the restore did not correctly. Event viewer shows this error, "Information Store (5976) First Storage Group: Attempted to attach database 'C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb' but it is a database restored from a backup set on which hard recovery was not started or did not complete successfully. " I then stopped all Exchange services and tried again. Restore failed with "Unable to perform operation, either you cannot connect or the service you are trying to connect to is not running". AT the moment confused, especially as my knowledge of backups is limited, so not certain if doing an Online or offline restore. Can you expand on what you mean by online and how I do it, sorry to be so thick but having a very bad day with this. But whats new when working with PC's Rgds Andy "Chad A. Sorry Andy -
Actually, I spent the better part of yesterday recovering an SBS where all I had was an offline backup of the databases (and to make it interesting, I was restoring to a new SBS, so it was a completely different domain & hardware). Are you getting any specific error (including error code / event ID) in Exchange System Manager when you try to mount the store? If you run an eseutil /mh against the database, does it show a clean or dirty shutdown? If that shows a dirty shutdown, try this - make a backup copy of your MDBData directory. Once you have a backup copy, run the following commands for both the priv1.edb & pub1.edb files. C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\> eseutil /p "[path to your Exchange data]\priv1.edb" C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\> eseutil /d "[path to your Exchange data]\priv1.edb" After you've ran these for both priv1.edb & pub1.edb, run the following: C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\> isinteg -fix -s <servername> -test alltests Once this has completed, see if you can mount the stores . . . -- Chad A. Hi
I am also experiencing the same issue, but when I run the C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\> isinteg -fix -s <servername> -test alltests command, it asks me to choose the database. I tried with both Mailbox Store and Public Folder Store, but it comes up with the message "Isinteg cannot initiate the verification process. Please review the log files for more information." Which log files should I review? Additionally, I also find these error messages in the Event Viewer with the Event ID 9175: The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error: The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0526-00000000 For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. Any help will be highly appreciated.. I am really stuck!!! Thanks a lot! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Chad A. Hi Saajan my knowledge is not sufficient to help you but I did find this,
which might be of help. Hello Christian, Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup. According to your description, I understand that the Mailbox Store or Public Folder Store cannot automatically mount after the SBS 2003 Server reboot. If I have misunderstood your concern, please don't hesitate to let me know. To narrow down this issue, please answer and perform the following questions and steps: 1. As you mentioned, since this issue occurs after you have swung the SBS 2003 to a new Hardware, let's re-check the configuration of the Server: A. Please run "services.msc" at command prompt, and verify the Startup Type of the Microsoft Exchange Information Store is Automatic, and the Status of the service is Started. B. Open the Exchange Server Management, point to Servers -> First Storage Group, right-click Mailbox Store and select Properties, on the dialog box, click Database tab, clear click 'Do not mount this store at start-up' option. Please also do the same steps to the Public Folder Store. Then check if the issue can be re-produced. 2. Please locate the Errorlog.txt and Eventlog.txt from the ..\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs folder, and check whether there are any error messages noted on this issue, then paste the full context in your reply. 3. Plesae kindly re-confirm whether or not this issue occurs with the Mailbox Store or the Public Folder Store. Additionally, I'm glad to provide the below KB article for your reference: 274534 XADM: Event ID 9175, 9546, 9519 Messages Occur When Mailbox Store Fails http://support.microsoft.com/?id=274534 290215 XADM: Cannot Mount Mailbox or Public Store and Event ID 491 Occurs http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290215 822449 Error c1041724 Occurs When You Try to Mount a Database on an Exchange http://support.microsoft.com/?id=822449 I am appreciated your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
