Unable To Open Contol Panel

I just got a new Acer 3680. I can access internet with IE without any problem
But when I click on Control Panel, a new box opens up that says "Internet
Explorer has stopped working, window is checking for a solution" and then
another box opens up saying "Windows Explorer is restarting". Then everything
goes away, incluidng the Control Panel box. Can anyone help?

Sorry, the new box opens up and says "Window Explorer has stopped
working...", not "Internet Explorer has stopped working.."
