Ok,
I re-ran Norton Removal, but there was nothing to remove. I uninstalled Zone Alarm and Re-installed it. Removed my mail account and re-installed it, and it still didn't work. Then I installed Windows Live Mail, and it wouldn't let me open attachments either. Then I thought I should do a system restore, but for some reason all my restore points were deleted. Then I got a blue screen and my computer shut down. I checked with IT at work and we tried to figure out what happened. As near as we could figure, between the time I uninstalled Zone Alarm, and Re-installed, I somehow got a virus (I forgot to uncheck the box to automatically connect to my home network). I had been infected with a TDSSworm. Then it just kept getting worse. We tried several things, and I finally went into safe mode, copied all my files, and then Restored my computer back to factory settings. The good thing, is now I can open attachments again. I am so sick of Microsoft. My next computer will be a MAC. "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: > Yes, do report back. I'd like to interject something that worked for me, I had to change my 'Internet Explorer' settings to 'Medium' instead of 'Medium High', since mail is still being sent over the internet, even that can effect it. Making sure as suggested by other posts here about the making sure the check is removed from stopping downloading attachments in your mail settings usually solves the problem. Here's something else I found that helped to; Sometimes it was a flaw on my Internet Service Provider and I just called them to 'Reset' from their end and then tested it by sending an email to myself. That way I knew immediately whether it worked or not and could call my ISP back if necessary. They are usually the best help in these situations too. Hope it helps someone here, have a great day. Yeah, and then someone that takes your advice might get infected by malicious software by reducing Internet Explorer's security. Fortunate for you, they are not likely to know the problem was caused by you; instead they will blame Microsoft and try to get help from a newsgroup such as this. It will waste a lot of people's time and might even cost someone a lot of money that gets stolen due to reduced security. Please understand that if your system gets infected, it was your fault.
