We are running Windows 2003 domain on 32-bit system. I am trying to
promote my first Windows 2008R2 to Windows 2003 domain but I keep
getting the message saying that I need to adprep, which I already ran
"adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep" on the primary domain
controller which holds FMSO and also global catalog.

I wonder if the problem is between 32 bit and 64 bit. Can someone advise
on this?

Thank you very much!!!

Hello,

32-bit vs 64-bit should not be a problem.

Make sure to insert the Windows 2008 R2 DVD in the Schem
master and run "adprep /forestprep". Insert the Windows 200
R2 DVD in the Infrastructure master and run "adpre
/domainprep" on the Infrastructure master.

Make note of any errors or messages you get when you ru
adprep.

After doing so, you must wait for replication to occur
Depending on your infrastructure and replication schedule
this make take some time. Once it is done you should be abl
to promote a 2008 DC.

If you're still having problems then run the typica
diagnostics like dcdiag, replmon, etc. to spot troubl
areas

Run on a 32bit machine, use adprep32.exe (from the R2 DVD)

Hello april,

As already said from the others, make sure to use the adprep32.exe from the
Windows server 2008 R2 disk on the schema master.

Best regards
