Unable to reach Update site

MSN Expl. 7, dials up msn.com, XPHome. Computer hangs when trying to go to
update site - all - can't go to WUD, MSUD, Catalog, nothing. Have to Task
Bar out. "More info" on error report sez "It's Microsofts' fault and there's
no way to fix it".
Tried the 2 downloads recommended by Robin Walker. Made things worse. At
least before, it would go to the update site and pull up what was needed, but
would hang when trying to download. Now as soon as I click on the download
site, it hangs.
Anyone have other suggestions ? Help and advice ? Many thanks in advance..

If that is the exact text of the error message, then I suggest you need to
disinfect your PC of malware.

There is NO error message, no pop up to say we have a problem, none in event
viewer, etc., just hangs. Can't go back to the MSN home page or anywhere
else. The referred to msg. comes up when clicking on the more info button
after sending the error report to MS. Then, up comes the IE page with that
msg.. After going to the task bar to close the non-responding program, then
the opportunity to notify MS.... Spyware Blaster, SPyBot S&D, AdAware,
CWShredder and NAV06, are all current and show clean. Just extremely
frustrating... Anything else I can try ? Thanks for responding.

Could you please try disabling all that lot, and every other anti-malware
application you might have, and see whether you can reach the update site
without them.

Now that's scary ! But yes, I can try to disable all that lot and go
online... By the way, this just started happening about a week ago and all
the lot have been on the puter for a few years... Also, yesterday I DL'd the
2 you suggested to others - 927891 and 932494 (does not come up v7 went back
to 6 and stalls) if that's significant..
OK, I will try the disable bit and get back, probably tomorrow, as my time
is about up for today... Thanks, again.
