Thanks for your help! I apologize for being so long in responding, but I
only found your answer today (I was waiting for an email notification of
reply). It was the stimulus of your answer which led me to what I believe is
the solution, below. But I've begun with responses to your comments.
1. I'm using WMA (lossless).
2. I "Searched" the My Music folder and the containing external hard disk,
but none of the missing files showed up; nor were they revealed by the "Open
file location" command for the files which had ripped and remained. As it
turned out, they hadn't ripped.
3. All automatic metadata lookup had been disabled.
4. HOWEVER, I believe I've found the problem. If multiple tracks have
exactly the same title on the CD, only one track will copy to the Library.
For example, one of my Vivaldi CDs has 6 concertos; on the CD, several of
those concertos have tracks titled only, for example, "allegro". Only one
"allegro" (not necessarily the first) of the several would rip to the Library
and remain there. However, if I retitled the tracks -- eg., "allegro, 1" and
"allegro 2" and so on -- then all tracks ripped properly. A Brubeck CD had
two takes of "Camptown Races", each titled only "Camptown Races", and only
one of the two tracks would rip. I re-titled to "Camptown Races, 1" and
"Camptown Races, 1" and got both ripped. Several symphonies had each of
their tracks titled only "Symphony #3", for example, and only one track would
rip. Re-naming the tracks with some distsinguishing character got all tracks
properly ripped.
Can't trust what the jewel-case literature says about the track names!
Once again, many thanks for your help, and my apologies for the tardiness of
my reply.
