When i try to update my windows to sp2,in the middle of installation it will
tell me unable to read or write the Data base, and the installation will
finish,My Norton anti virus and Norton internet security are set to disable,
and i don't know what to do.

1. Open My Computer and navigate to C:\Windows\Security.

2. Rename all the files with name edb*.log to edb*.log.old.

3. Then navigate to C:\Windows\System32\CatRoot2

4. Rename all the files with name edb*.log to edb*.log.old.

Restart the computer and try the install.

Hi

Deleting or renaming the .log files in the folder
%windir%\Security\ (and maybe in %windir%\System32\CatRoot2\
as well) should solve the problem.

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

I have created a batch file that does exactly this (and some
additional steps as well).

Look for fixdb.bat under "Error 0x800710D9 Unable to read from
or write to the database"

That script did the trick for me. Should have checked the message board
before wasting time searching the Microsoft site for help!!!
