I'm not sure if this is what will fix your problem but this is the best
solution that I have on hand. This link here:

I guess the best spot to check first would be to open Internet Explorer,
click on tools, options, and programs and make sure that Outlook Express (or
Outlook, or what ever you're using for your default email client) is listed
in the drop down box for the E-Mail program. If that doesn't work then
there's a reset button on that same section or else try the information
contained in the link above. Finally, should that not work, there's now a
groups specifically designated for Outlook Express, there's some for
Outlook, and there's one for Internet Explorer specifically which might
result in better answers as this group is specifically for issues with
Windows Update.
