Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail (*****) account. To send
and receive messages in your Hotmail account, go to http://hotmail.live.com
on the Web, or try again later. To get help from Windows Live Customer
Support, go to http://support.live.com and click Windows Live Mail in the
list of services.

Server Error: 500
Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'

This is a server error rather than a problem on your end.
Your error message states Server Error 500 - which is an internal server
error code.
I'm sure Microsoft are aware of this as they have monitoring software on all
of their servers and will hopefully fix it soon.

Go to http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas (or ideas.live.com) to
download and install the latest beta version. You don't need to uninstall the
old one first.

Couple questions:
1) what version of wlm do you have?
2) did you just add this account, and this is on initial sync, or this error
just started happening
3) are you attempting to send an email, or are you just checking for new
mail?
4) what kind of connection are you using to connect to the net? (cable, dsl,
dialup)
5) do you have any firewalls on this machine or do you connect via a proxy?

that info should give me a bit more to go on.

Eureka!

I believe I've found the problem that has kept Live Mail Desktop from
syncing properly. Please pass this information on to the Tech-Development
department.

__________________________________________
WLMail (ver. 1184-1365) has, in fact, been downloading every message (new
and old)
___________________________________________

Most people will not notice the delay, unless they are on dialup. Consider
that if someone has 32Mb stored in a folder, that one folder could take
nearly four hours to download.

I fixed the problem by hovering the mouse over an offending folder
right-clicking PROPERTIES, went to the SYNCHRONIZE tab, the chose ALL
MESSAGES radio button, clicked APPLY, chose the NEW MESSAGES radio button,
clicked APPLY, and clicked OK. I did this with each faulty folder.
Just a note: The mail notification sound, currently, is not functioning
reliably (sometimes is, sometimes isn't, sometimes delayed). I'm not griping,
I'm just thinking it might be a symptom.

Happy hunting.

I have the exact same issue..
1. Version 2008, (Build 12.0.1365)
2. Just added this account and is on initial sync. hasnt been able to
download anything at all.
3. This happens on clicking "download" on the page that reads "WLM needs to
download the folders before you can read the messages in this account. To
download the folders, click download"
4. Cable. WLM for another Live ID account on the same vista ultimate box
works just fine, this is only with my account
5. see above, works for another account so it shouldnt be a firewall or
proxy issue.

One version old; should be 12.0.1606.

http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

When you run the installer, uncheck everything that you don't want
installed. It *is* possible to only install Windows Live Mail; I have done
it. That would include unchecking stuff on the first menu that pops up.

All of the other issues should be resolved by installing the latest version.
If WLM 12.0.1365 is working fine, otherwise, you can just install the latest
version over it. I did it that way.

Same issues here. Bang up to date install (downloaded today). First attempt
to download folders for newly created account - same error message.

Hi Chris:

You wrote that you see the same error message as the original poster. That
is server error 500 (from September).

I have server error 5102, but it only occurs with one out of my five Windows
Live Hotmail accounts. Other accounts are working.

Last month, Justin from Microsoft posted (in part):

"For all of you guys seeing the 5102 server error ... We have found
a couple of issues on our servers that may be causing this. We
have a team of people engaged and actively investigating ...
this is a problem on our end (from the best we can tell)."

Subsequently, some weeks since passed where WLMb and all of my hotmail
accounts worked okay, but this server error is back bigtime. The problem
returned about one week ago, and, except for a single, 20-minute interval on
, I've been unable to send or receive e-mail messages with my default
account.

I'm curious to know more about your situation. Will you please post the
server error number you see? Also, does your issue involve a Windows Live
Hotmail account? If so, then is it your default account in WLMb? Do you
know approximately how much storage space this account currently uses on
Microsoft's server(s)?

I'm trying to look for a correlation between these various server-error
flavours and the size (and default-account status) of the hotmail accounts
involved.

By the way, some people can resolve this issue by removing and adding the
problematic account. You could try that; it does not help me.
