Unable to sign in to Windows Live Messenger

I just installed Vista Business and Office 2007. When I could not sign in
using Windows Live Messenger, I uninstalled it and downloaded a fresh copy.
I still cannot sign in; not with my old account, nor with the new one I
installed. I would appreciate some help on what to check.

Did you receive any error message? If so, what was it? We can help you

No error messages while it sits in "connecting" state. When I close out WML,
it gives me an error message "your screen name cannot be changed".

I uninstalled 8.1 and downloaded 8.0 as suggested in another post I found.
No difference.

I can sign in on my laptop which has XP Pro and WML 8.1. I did get signed
out, though ... "You have signed in on another computer." The Vista machine
went into sleep mode, but I had awakened it to check email. When I opened
WML on it, the message had changed from "connecting" to "reconnecting". On
neither machine is WML set to sign in automatically.

This seems to be Vista related.

I am also having problems this morning and it appears to be the dreaded:

Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is
temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
Error code: 81000314

Any ideas?
