Yes, and it still was not available as a choice when selecting Colors.
However, I continued to do some more research and finally came across a
white paper from Microsoft called Windows Vista Rules for Enabling Windows
Aero. Here is the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...ero_rules.mspx
I ended up tracing the problem to the DWM service being disabled. As soon
as I restarted it and waited a minute, Aero immediately came back as a
choice. I was able to successfully get it running again. I am know going
through the log files in event viewer to track the problem down. I have two
apps that require Vista Basic, one of which is Flight Simulator X and the
logs note when it asks to switch to Vista Basic. The other is a neat program
called DosBox that allows you to run older DOS programs (still have a few of
them I use once in a while) in a full DOS environment with sound and video
loaded. I think that may be the problem, so I uninstalled it for now.
Thanks for your replies and assistance. I am very grateful.
