Unable to unzip without the right password

I tried to install a hot fix by unzipping first. When I go to execute the
zip file, it asks for a password. I'm not sure what password it wants. It
entered the password for the administrator of the computer, but that didn't
do anything. It gives me a "skip" option, but then no files are unzipped.
What do I do?

It's the password set by the person who "zipped" the file. It's not *your*
Windows or Administrator password.

What is the fix for, and where did you obtain this fix? Did you contact the
site you obtained it from? Are there instructions on the web site regarding
this particular file?

Did you request this hotfix from Microsoft? If so, you should have received an
email with the password listed near the bottom of the message. That's the
password you're being asked to provide.

Good luck

When unzipping and a password is required it's usually the name of the
website or uploader. But really hot fix's (from MS I assume) shouldn't
be password protected. Where did you download it from?

I have never heard of Microsoft sending a hotfix ever.
Since when did they start doing such?

You check with the people who provided you with the zip file.

The password has nothing to do with your local passwords.

Just as an example, click on "View and request hotfix downloads" near the top of
this Microsoft article.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948277

On the page that appears you provide an email address and soon after you'll
receive a message with a link to download the hotfix. Included in the email is a
password that you'll need in order to unzip the downloaded file.
