Unable to Update to be able to install SP1

I've been wanting to install Sp1 for Vista for a while now, but everytime I
go to do so, it sways i need to update a lton of things before it can
complete.

I go into Windows Update (which is normally disabled), get the new updated,
and try to install them.
The last time I did this, it just sat on 0% for the first update for a week,
this is when i turned it off.

Just tried again today, and got an error saying i need to update windows
update to update everything else. Tried to install that, and the mo0dules
installer crashed half way thru installation. I restarted the windows update
service, went back in, tried again, and now I get error 8024001B. Help says
to click Try Again and that'll fix it. When I click that, it does nothing.

So basically I want SP1, cant get SP1 without updates, cant get updates
without this update, cant get this update because of 8024001B.
