Hi. My Vista Home Premium system has started telling me it's unable to
automatically update the security centre. When I try to manually update that
fails to and I get an error message saying Windows cannot find
'::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-BEB064C98683}\5\::{36EEF7DB-88AD-4E81-AD4...\[ageSettings'.
I also can't update Windows Defender, it says The program can't check for
definition updates and it says "Error found: Code 0x80080005”
Can anyone help with this, pleae?

Hi
Thanks for your reply, but nothing in that archive seems to be an
authoritative solution. I've tried replacing the winhttp.dll file (the most
repeated solution) but there's one there already and I don't have
'permission' to replace it - those permissions seem to be unchangable. Any
other ideas would be appreciated!

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB123456).

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

Are those your typos made while transcribing something you are seeing
or are you really getting such a message? It is generally best to copy
and paste messages so we can see exactly what messages you are
seeing. Remember, your words have to substitute for what our eyes
might notice.

Error code 5 usually means Access denied. Typically it is a symptom of a
permissions error but it could also be a symptom of a previous error code
within the same incident.

One of the hints that you should have drawn from the list of previous attempts
to help people with this code is that whoever you get to help you is going to need
_more details_. ; }
