1. First stop the Automatic Update Service
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates Service.
Click Stop.
2. After Stopping the Service please rename the folder
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to the Windows folder
Click on the + next to the Windows folder
Navigate to the SoftwareDistribution folder
Right Click on the SoftwareDistribution folder
Select rename from the Menu
Rename the folder to SoftwareDistribution.old and click Enter
3. Now restart the Automatic Update Service
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates Service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.
Retry Windows Update again
If the system can successfully update, then delete Software
Distribution.old
NOTE: This will remove the update history that is viewed on the WU
site.
If no joy :
Re-register the Windows Update DLLs with the commands below
1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
2. Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
Type exit, press Enter to close the Command Prompt window.
Try Windows Update again.
