Unable to upgrade to Microsoft Update from Windows Update

HI all,

I have just preformed a Restore from Complete PC backup and all restored
smoothly. Reason I did this was to roll back to Pre-SP1 Beta.

Now when I try and use Windows Update I cannot upgrade to Microsoft Update.
I get a Windows Update 6 webpage and then another IE window opens that
gives me Windows Update 4.

This is rather odd and is there a workaround to get Microsoft Update for
Vista back?

This was working fine when I took the backup image so can't see why it's
broken and it was meant to be a clone of the Windows installation.

So much for "Complete PC backup" :-/

See if this KB article is pertinent to this issue, Steve:

Error message when you try to install Microsoft Update on a Windows
Vista-based computer: "Could not install Microsoft Update on the computer"

The system can access Windows Update and when you click the 'upgrade' to
MU another WU 6 page opens in IE and then another IE instance opens to
WU 4 ? Weird.
What add-ons are installed for IE ?

We assume you're posting about a Vista machine. Was Vista SP1 beta
installed on the machine when the backup was created? Is SP1 beta still
listed in Add/Remove Programs?

There are only the standard add-ons that come with Vista. This makes little
sence to me.

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.

Try posting to the beta-specific newsgroups or do a "wipe & reload."
