unable to upgrade to sp2

i am having xp home sp1 and with windows update configurator, it keeps
downloading sp2 and asks shall i install, if i say ok it asks for user
license and when i accept that, it says install is completed, but it doesnt
reflect int he system. also when i go to windows update it always says sp2
needs to be applied on your system. however even after multiple attemps, i
could not succeed. any help in this regard is helpfull.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Run dialog box, type winver
3. Click OK.

A dialog box displays the version that you are running.

Does it say Service Pack 2?
