i have a toshiba satellite laptop that is has ie7 in both 32 and 64 bit
forms. occasionally while i am surfing new windows just start popping
up from all over. it has gotten to the point of 30 plus new windows.

this started on day two of ownership. i have scanned for viruses and
found none.

any idea what is causing this to happen?

Malware or Trojans also come to mind. Not all virus scanners protect
against these.

I've used SpyBot Search and Destroy for about 1-2 years and like it well.
There are others out there as well.

Note Windows Defender doesn't cover all malware or spyware as well.

Did you check for malware? Try Malwarebytes and see what it finds.
