How to undock an address toolbar from the regular taskbar?

When used Windows XP I had an address toolbar docked to the TOP of the screen
and the regular taskbar in it's usual place along the bottom of the screen.
I could auto-hide the address bar so I could see it only when I needed to use
it. In vista I can't seem to get it to undock from the taskbar and it is
really inconvenient to have it on the taskbar.

I agree that it's inconvenient and no, there's no way to undock them.

Similarly, I used a quicklaunch bar on the sides of my XP screens that
contained 25-30 icons. Impractical to keep it on the taskbar in Vista.

If you create a folder on the desktop and then drag it to the side/top of
the screen you will get a toolbar. If you right click this - Toolbars -
select toolbar you want or select New Toolbar and point to your folder of
shortcuts. Then clean up by pointing to the toolbar created by the desktop
folder and close it, delete the desktop folder and you're left with your
personalised toolbar.

I have 22, and use hide the taskbar so it is only available when needed.
Also since I often have all 6 lines listing open programs this is the most
convenient for me.
