I have a fully activated version of vista ultimate. It is now giving the
message
" your windows licence will expire in 2 days please backup & install any
version of vista"
wil this mwan that I will have to do yet another clean install vista ultimate?

Did you install the Beta Service Pack 1?

Then that is what is expiring. You need to uninstall it quickly!

As Gordon says, uninstall SP1 promptly. All beta copies expire tomorrow.
Afterwards give Windows Update a chance to bring you up to date. It will
keep offering pre-requisite updates and then finally offer SP1.
