uninstall updates from crashed system

I've got one system (XP) that really doesn't like Windows Updates; many of
the updates cause it to crash & burn. I've been trying to track things down
one at a time, but the problem is that I can't uninstall the updates through
Windows. Which means going through recovery console and deleting them
manually.

Which does work, of course. But it takes FOREVER to boot up into recovery
console each time. Is there a faster way to do this? Seems like you cannot
use a dos disk, or is there something I don't know?

Thanks-

Just for curiosity sake, how do you uninstall Windows Updates and Patches
from Recovery Console?

In the directory windows is installed into (typically c:\windows) you'll
find a list of subdirectories that start with a "$" followed by
"Ntuninstall" followed by another "$" followed by the name of the update or
patch. So, if your update was KB895053, you'd find a directory named

$NtuninstallKB895053$

In that directory will be another subdirectory, called "SPINUNST"

You go to that subdirectory, and type the command

BATCH SPINUNST.TXT

That will remove the offending update or patch, from the recovery console.
It *does* work. It's just a bit of a pain, due to the long file names you
have to type.
