There is no supported way to remove the components. Contacts is an Explorer
shell extension. WinMail is an app, but there is not uninstaller.
However, they don't actually affect the performance of your machine, unless
they are loaded into memory. If the remain unused, the only tax is a small
amount of disk space. You can delete the icons, and then you'll probably
never run them - so, they won't affect performance.
It is kind of sad there is this duplication, with a dinky little utility
built-in to the OS which is borderline useless; and a genuinely useful app
which replicates the built-in function, without replacing it, and you pay
for. But analysing that, with reference to the DoJ and the rest, is a major
project. for now, we just need to live with it. In an ideal world, the
"pay-for" app would have built on top of the existing APIs, instead of
setting up a parallel universe. Outlook would have been an add-on, not
replacement, for Outlook Express/WinMail. But I digress ...
Some folks may reply with various unsupported hacks, to remove these
components from your system. If you wan to to tray those, go for it. But be
aware you are making your machine unsupported; and Contacts and Calendar
(and all the other crud) doesn't have much resource impact apart from disk
space, with is cents per megabyte anyway.
