I'm so frustrated with Vista Home Premiun, The annoying pop up windows,
Software not working, Hardware problems ect, ect.

I bought a Gateway from Bestbuys, It was a floor model and before I could
take it home, They had to remove some software. Well I don't know what they
did but a lot of previous software doesn't work along with some drivers.
Thanks Geeksquad. Also I didn't get any software. And can't run Office
without the keycode. Sorry for the rant.

Anyway I want to remove Vista and reinstall Windows XP

Any advice on how to proceed ?

Thanks
Dick

You're obviously too stewpid to use Vista so you might want to return the
BestBuy PC and purchase a Kiddie PC made by Mattel Toys Inc.

Boot from your XP CD and reformat the partition and install XP.
You will have to reinstall all applications etc too.

FWIW - MS Office is not included with MS operating systems. Some
retailers include it, but basically, you pay extra for it. OpenOffice.org
is a free MS Office compatible office suite you can easily download and
install.

You could check for a "recovery Partition" and reinstall everything....this
would take it back to a factory state.
Assuming this unit came with Vista and a few programs from the factory...it
would take it back to that state.
Office is not a program that is usually given away.......30 day trial and
then you usually need to purchase.

If you have your little heart set on XP then you would need to go to the
Gateway website and using your model./serial number see IF they even have XP
drivers for this particular model. If they do you will need to download and
safe them to a CD.Then purchase a retail copy of whatever version of XP you
wish to use...but not an Upgrade version.
Restart system with XP CD in place and start a new
install.........formatting the HD during the process.
After XP is installed you will need to install those Gateway drivers.

Go to the manufacturer's website and get the drivers for your
video card, nic, and so on. Don't forget the motherboard drivers (for
drive controllers and such). If you can't get those from the maker of
the PC you can get them from the maker of the chipset. IOW if you have an
Nvidia chipset on your motherboard you can get chipset drivers from Nvidia.
Put them all on a CD. If you have SATA hard drives make a floppy with your
SATA drivers on it.

Now boot the XP CD and follow the prompts. Delete the existing
partition and create a new NTFS partition for XP.

You people always talk like these vendors make their own parts.
You don't need Gateway to have XP support. The people who really made
the parts (Intel NIC, Nvidia video) etc. will have XP drivers. In fact,
they sometimes even have DOS drivers... The only exception is (sometimes)
for laptops which have special parts it can be hard to find an exact match
for.

So Geek Squad screwed up your computer, doing whatever they did that
you don't know, and as a result you're "frustrated with Vista Home
Premiun"?

That makes no sense at all. Don't blame Vista for what the
incompetents at Geek Squad did.

> Also I didn't get any software.

Neither Windows Vista, nor any other version of Windows, has ever
included Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, or any other significant
application software. Such programs have to be bought, either by
themselves or as part of Microsoft Office.

If your previous computer, running an older version of Windows, came
with some of these, it was because the vendor who sold it bundled them
as part of the package he sold you, not because that version of
Windows came with it. Some, but not all, vendors do the same with
Windows Vista.

> And can't run Office
> without the keycode. Sorry for the rant.

You're ranting about the wrong people and about the wrong things. Rant
to Geek Squad about what they screwed up, not about Vista. And rant to
yourself for mistakenly thinking that any version of software has ever
come with application software.

I understand that you are unhappy and frustrated with your experience.
But don't blame Vista for any of it.

> Anyway I want to remove Vista and reinstall Windows XP

Why? Besides everything else I said above, among the things you
mention in your first paragraph is hardware problems. Those problems
aren't going to go away because you change operating systems.
