How to uninstall WMP 11?

My WMP 11 has stopped working (it stops working immediately on launch). How
can I uninstall it?

You can't.

WMP 11 cannot be uninstalled in Windows Vista.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

This procedure will scan Vista's protected system files
and attempt to repair or replace missing or corrupt files.

WMP 11 is part of Vista itself, not a separate add on therefore it can't be
uninstalled. You would do better trying Carey's suggestion of using System
File Checker 'SFC /SCANNOW

I get a message that I must be an administrator running a console session in
order to use the sfc utility, but as far as I am aware I am an
administrator (it's my PC and no one else's)

I haven't done anything with WMP for a long time as it hasn't worked.
