I tried to update Itunes and it said it could not proceed with th
download because I already had the newest version of Quicktime. I gues
I had updated it separately at a past time.
I uninstalled Itunes, thinking it would uninstall Quicktime as well. I
didn't. So I have been trying to uninstall Quicktime 7 so I can updat
Itunes. The problem is, when I try to uninstall it through add/remov
programs, I press UNINSTALL and it asks me if I want to UNINSTALL it,
click yes, but it says it cannot INSTALL Quicktime because I alread
have the newest version. I AM SELECTING UNINSTALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
get the same message when I try to uninstall it with Perfec
Uninstaller. I have tried EVERYTHING. It will NOT uninstall off my PC.
have deleted the folder from my program files. Everything. I cannot ge
Itunes back until I've uninstalled it.
PLEASE HELP. Thank you

Deleting the folder from program files might be part of the problem.
That's where the uninstaller used to be... It's never a good idea to
delete a program folder until uninstallation has been completed
successfully.

Usually, when an uninstaller fails (or disappears), the best thing to do
is to reinstall the program, but you seem to be out of luck.

Your best bet might be to go to the Apple site and download the iTunes
and QuickTime installers to a folder - such as C:\Downloads\Apple - and
run those programs from there. Do this instead of running the installer
directly from the Apple site. If that fails, try to find older versions
and retry it all with them.

Have you tried going to the Apple site or to Apple newsgroups or forums
for help? It is, after all, an Apple problem...

That's a really good point, I never thought of that before deleting th
folder.

I tried what you said and unfortunately it didn't work.

I have tried installing older versions but I get the same error messag
saying I have a newer version.

The first thing I did was go to the Apple site help forum page an
there's nothing there to do with my problem. They explain how t
uninstall iTunes and Quicktime but it's the way that isn't working fo
me.

I have a feeling I am just going to have to wait for the next updat
that'll be a newer version of the Quicktime I have now :

Sorry I couldn't help. What I said is the classical thing, but of course
it might not work for a non-classical case.

The only other thing I can think of is to find everything relevant in
the registry and delete it (after exporting it, for safety's sake), but
that could be disastrous if you're not comfortable with the registry.
And anyway I have no knowledge of what to kill.

Have you tried Googling instead of looking at Apple's forum? It might be
worth some (perhaps wasted) time...

I already deleted every Quicktime folder in my registry. There mus
have been something downloaded in a hidden folder. It could be an
where

That's how I found this, was Googling the problem. No one seems to hav
the same problem as me with not being able to uninstall it. I'm almos
at the point of reformating my PC

My wild guess is that maybe something is running from Apple in the
background preventing the un-install. Check Task Manager to see if
ANYTHING is running with the Apple name. If so. Delete it.

Then use your favorite Uninstaller Program again. I particular like
Advanced Uninstaller Pro.
http://www.innovative-sol.com/uninstaller/index.htm They might have a
trail period and it would be worth a try. Advanced Uninstaller after
the uninstall goes back and searches the registry for left over entries.
It's very effective.

Just my $0.02.

What is a "Quicktime folder in my registry"?

Do you mean registry entries related to Quicktime, folders on your hard
drive with Quicktime in the name, or Quicktime hard-drive folders
referenced in the registry?

Whichever you mean, it may be part of the problem, as I said before
(about program folders).

You are giving up much too quick.
Search your system for the relevant items and delete when found.
There is no need for panic.

Harry.
