Uninstalling a failed installation

Hello

I have tried (& failed) to install a somewhat elderly program under Vista.
(To be fair, the software is not guaranteed for Vista, though it worked OK
in XP.)The installation procedure seemed fine until the very end, when
everything just stopped. I rebooted, tried again - same result.

I now find I cannot properly uninstall the program. The Control Panel
'uninstall' option fails (hangs) before completing properly (it seems to use
the same interface as the progs 'install' procedure). I have checked Control
Panel 'uninstall' and the prog is still listed.

Help & advice please ?

Many thanks as always for your help

KK

Hi KK,

Looks like you will have to do it the manual (HARD) way.
1. Delete the program's folder with program in "C:\Program Files".
*NOTE: *Make a note of it's folder name for searches later.
2. Run a thorough search on your hard drive with that program's folder
name.
3. Delete what is related to that program.
4. Open Regedit (C:\Windows\regedit.exe) and click "Edit > Find" (at
top) and type in programs's folder name and click "Find Next"
5. Delete the entry if related to this program and click "Edit > Find
next" to find the next entry.
6. Close regedit.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I can't recall the name, but Microsoft has a utility that will force an
uninstall that has failed. I had to use it at home for a older package that
I thought I would try. It seems to work well. After I used it there were no
remnants of the program in the registry. Sorry I can't recall the name, but
maybe someone else can help on that. The point being Microsoft does have a
utility that does that.

Three ideas. Have you retried the install with a view to
uninstalling?

You could try Your Uninstaller:

http://www.ursoftware.com/

The trial version is fully functional.

OR do you have a backup from fairly recently before the failed
install? Maybe a rollback so that even if you do not get rid of the
superfluous files you know that the registry is unaffected?
