Uninstalling Messenger on Vista

My friend and I have both got a virus and are going to uninstall Messenger to
try and get rid of it.

My computer is an XP and under Control Panel I've been able to uninstall
Messenger. However on my friends computer, which is Vista, when she goes onto
Control Panel > Uninstall/Change Programs and gets a list of her programs,
Messenger is not an option.

Does anybody know why this is? Or can anyone suggest another way of
uninstalling it?

Thanks

it depends on which version of messenger you atre running. if you are running
8.5 and earlier there will be a thing in the control pannel that says
something like msn messenger. if it 9.0 it will say essentials. and as long
as I know to uninstall essentials is the same way you would uninstall
messenger.

Just to add to this, uninstalling Messenger (and I presume you're going to be reinstalling
it), won't do anything to stop a typical Messenger virus as it runs independently of the
application.
