I recently bought a new DVD burner with Lightscribe (LG) and tried to
install. All software that came prevents me from installing due to
compatibility. Went to manufacturers web sit and no drivers available for
Vista. Had enough of all the frustrations with Vista and want to go back to
XP. Can I uninstall Vista and re-install XP ? or do I have to start anew
from a complete wipe of hard drive. Any recommendations or help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you have to do a clean install if you want to return to Windows XP.

Hi,

Gotta wipe the install partition. Actually, you will need to remove and
recreate the installation partition in order to install XP. Vista makes some
minor changes to the file system that XP setup will not be able to deal
with.

The latest versions of Lightscribe are supposed to be Vista compatible:

older and needs to be updated.

No, the wipe is the most prudent method of going back to XP.
Since you upgraded it is possible to do a reversion, but even if
all conditions are perfect, XP would then require adjustment.
If you insist, KB927522 explains how roll vista back to XP:
