unknown destination

I am updating and went to Windows Update Catalog and it asks where to send
the file/windows update does it automatically and doesn't ask this and I do
not know where the critical update files go. Sorry it's a dumb question but I
sure don't want to send it to the wrong place

How to Download Windows Updates and Drivers from the Windows Update Catalog
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323166

Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what
you want, Click the “Go To Download Basket� link. Type in or browse to the
location where you want the updates saved to and then Click the “Download
Now� button. For example you may wish to save the downloads under “My
Documents� in your user profile. As long as you can find them, that's the
main thing.

so i they will work automatically run no matter where i save them?

Once the file has been saved to your HD you need to double click on the file
to run the update.

You can then either burn the downloaded file to CD or delete the file once
you have updated your computer.
