Unknown error re-installing Messenger.

Recently I have been having problems logging into my messenger, (never got
in, and didn't work for 3 days). So I decided to uninstall and re-install it.
However now I get another error when installing wlsetup-custom.exe

The error comes up right after it says preparing the installer, and goes as
follows:

Couldn't install programs

Please try installing Windows Live programs again.

Error: OnCatalogResult: 0x80072ee6

Next steps: An unknown error occurred.

Any ideas on how to get this back installed on my computer? It worked
perfectly just 4-5 days ago.

-Thanks!

Hi Kevin,

Just out of curiosity, did you have reset the transaction log or was it something else?

But even so that didn't seem to really help. As it turns out the 1.1 mb installer was the problem, so I downloaded the 100 odd somthing megabyte one instead, which - while a waste of bandwidth, fixed the problem.

Perhaps microsoft should go back to the tried and true individual installers?

Hi Kev1n,

Ah, gotcha. The Live installer is actually just a wrapper for standard Microsoft Installer
files, of which you can download and install the exact ones you want here at my blog (for
future reference and those searching this thread):

I'm not a fan of it either.
