If you can't solve the problem in 4 days, start again. Backup your personal
files and reinstall Vista.

Even MS admit that Vista is far from perfect and would probably suggest you
reinstall. A lot of problems found in Vista just can't be solved - hey,
that's life with Vista

Good luck

NEVER use registry cleaners. At best, they accomplish nothing; and at worst,
they can help to hose your system as you found out.

Do as Warren suggested and reload your system. Use a good freeware antivirus
program; I like Avira. Even though it comes with an annoying nag screen when
it updates, it has worked very well for me.

Install Malwarebytes Antimalware and Superantispyware to keep other nasties
off your machine. And get rid of the registry cleaners.

Well.... there are ways to turn it off. Google "disable Avira nag screen".
Avira has a small resource footprint and works well on lesser machines,
although machines meant for Vista generally have the resources. Avast and AVG
(in particular) have been getting panned for not being as good as they used
to be over in the XP newsgroups. I'll stick with Avira.
