Unsuccesfull update of Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

I have tried to update my system Windows Me unsuccessfully for Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.

I get three windows:

The first reads:

Error parsing
C:\WINDOWS\MICROSOFT.NET\FRAMEWORK\v\1.0.3705\conf ig\machine.config
Parser returned error 0x8007003

The second reads:

Setup error
Failed to load resources from resources file
Please check your setup

The third reads:

SI8376 has caused an error in MSCORWKS.DLL

I don't know how to solve this problem and it says that the update is
critical. I hope someone can help me to sove it. thanks
