Recently my computer started to go into system hibernation and system standby
for no apparent reason at all. Without any warning the screen turns blank and
everything shuts down. It has been impossible to turn it on again without
using the reset button, as the ordinary power button just turns the lights on
and off, not causing the machine to leap out of the system hibernation. As
I`ve disabled the system hibernation and system standby functions for the
computer except for when I only use the battery, this is rather puzzling.

All the possible downloads from microsoft has been installed on the
computer. I`ve run virus checks. I`ve defragmented the hard drive. A friend
of mine who works with computers says he can`t find anything physically wrong
with the computer either.
He suggests that he`s seen the problem before, but only on laptops with
Servicepack 2 installed???

Can anybody help me?? Would be grateful for any advice.

I had this problem yesterday!! I have a laptop with XP and service pack 2.

I was doing photo editing and my computer suddenly went into hibernation. I
lost a lot of work.

I wasn't able to open up Windows after that so I called my computer
manufacturer tech support. He told me there is a Windows vulnerability
(didn't mention laptops only) and this is happening to a lot of people.

He suggested I disable "Enable Hibernation" until Windows fixes this, which
I gladly did and am hoping for the best.

Good luck.

Hi!
Thank you for your answer, but unfortunately I haven`t had hibernation
enabled at my computer for quite some time, so this won`t fix the problem for
me. Very strange that it still hibernates...

Did he suggest anything else?
