Unwanted Icons

Hi Lisa,

Have you tried the simple solution of just using System Restore?

This sounds like the problem sometimes seen in XP where the common tasks
pane was seen on the desktop. This appeared when a user customized their
personal desktop folder (that'd be C:\Users\<user>\desktop in Vista). Can
you supply a screenshot?

Hi Lisa,

Type "snipping tool" into the start/search line. Capture the area of the
screen and save the file as a .gif or .png, either should be small enough.
You can edit them in paint if necessary to reduce size.

Hi Lisa,

I've not seen anything like that in any Vista system. I'd look at settings
for the toolbars you have installed and, again, system restore is an option
as well.

to explain it. I absolutely hate Vista. I have never wasted so much time in
my life. I see nothing better about it then XP but I spend hours trying find
out what I've done without intention. I wish I could have gotten XP and
foregone all the silly bells and whistles without paying an additional cost.

It's very simple: you dragged the folder to the edge of your desktop, and it
created a toolbar out of itself, thereby displaying its contents. The same
would have happened in XP. All you needed to do was right click this new
'toolbar', and chose to close it.

Very surprising coming from you.

All you have to do is drag a folder to the edge of the screen to open a
toolbar for it. If you right click it, you get extra options, like making
it hideable. You can also drag it into the centre, but I am not sure if you
can still do that in Vista. You can make folder toolbars at least since
Win2000! I find them useful when working on a project involving lots of
files.

Ok, now I see how it happened. Honestly, I hadn't encountered that since in
Vista the toolbars cannot be dragged off the taskbar like they could in
Win2000/XP, which is the way I was accustomed to creating them. Thanks for
pointing it out to me.

If you drag a folder to the edge of the desktop and release the button, you
will create a toolbar, just like the one you had before. You have to right
click it at the top, where the title is, to get the menu options.
