Upating from Windows 98 to WindowsXP Home

I want to update from Win 98 to Win XP home. I have a CD. Is there anything
I need t know befor I start> In particular, what do I do about the question
"Dynamic Update"? What is Dynamic Update? Do I need it?

No, you do not need to use Dynamic Update. However, you *will* need
to update the XP home that you are installing. Dynamic Update is a
convenience - a way to update when you do the upgrade install.

It requires an Internet connection. I would not connect to the
Internet until I got an AV going and a firewall up, myself.

The first thing you do is run the Upgrade Advisor. (On the CD somewhere -
look for upgadv.exe or similar)

After the advisor is done you will be presented with a list of incompatible
hardware and software. Either download XP compatible drivers for the
hardware or remove the hardware altogether. Same with the software - get any
XP updates.

Do not be online during the setup/install process. Disconnect all hardware
except for the monitor. mouse, and keyboard.
