      07-25-2005
Since I updated "Security Update for Windows XP (KB896422)" I have been
unable to download any new updates. I keep getting Error Code: 0x80246008
Any ideas?

This error may occur if the Background Intelligent Transfer Service is not enabled.
Note: Even if you are not using the Automatic Updates feature, the service must be
enabled for Windows Update.

I have tried all, nothing worked. When I did Background Intelligent Transfer
Service , I could not change the status to start. I got an error code
2147024894.

Click Start, select Run, then type in: SERVICES.MSC
Make sure the "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" is started and on automatic.

I made the change, and am still unable to download the updates.
I still am getting the same error when I try to start Background Intelligent
Transfer Service

I tried to update again, I received a new error 'Windows Genuine Advantage
Validation Tool (KB892130)'
This is a genuine windows proram.
Please help

Try going to start,accessories,command prompt, and type in " net start BITS"
and hit enter. I had the same problem and this fixed it.

After much research I stumbled across this thread, and it worked.
