Update 3.5 for framework.net

Hi, I am running Windows XP on a Compaq Presario and it is set to automatic
update. For the past 2 weeks it has tried to install this update but always
failed. The update downloads but won't install, and the PC keeps freezing and
I get the message that it has recovered from BSOD ! I have tried to install
this direct from Microsoft but the same occurs. On the event log the error
messages are either 1023 or 10005.
As the machine keeps shitting down regularly, I am getting a little fed up
and need some help, please.
