Update 867801 has killed my Win2K PC

Hi,

Installed 867801 and now my PC won't start. The boot up screen is fine,
then as soon as the desktop starts to appear it crashes and starts to reboot.
None of the safe mode options work either. To rub salt into the wound I try
to boot from the CD to perform a re-install and all it does is hang on the
Windows 2000 Setup blue screen.

Help! How can I get things working again? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Phil

Hey I got Win XP and the same update does the same thing. My comp goes into a
reboot loop and wont come out of it without using Last Know Good Config. It
happened after re-installing XP from SP2 RC2. I tried to re-install IE6 but
then errormessage comes up and is says, "The software has not passed the
Windows XP logo testing and will not be installed." Or something of that sort.

I have tried all the different boot options and none of them get any further
than a few milliseconds of the desktop.

When I try and boot from the Win 2000 disk I can now get as far as 'Setup is
loading files (Locale Specific Data)...' but then it hangs.

This is really starting to annoy me...

Try doing the last known good configuration from the boot options again then
if you can try and install 871260 if you can. It is an update roll-up for
867801. I had almost exactly the same problem as you and this worked for me.
Also when the computer goes into the reboot loop after choosing Last Known
Good Configuration for the second time, turn off the computer and turn it on
again. It should work. Sorry if this doesn't help. The only other option i
can think of otherwise is a re-install. It souldn't wipe any of yor programs
or documents. Hope your somputer gets well soon!
