Hi, I keep seeing a notice to download a new update MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security
Update (925672) with 0 KB. Every time I try this, it says "download
successful" but the update icon reappears and we go through the same process.
Restarting the computer doesn't help. Ideas, anyone??

Go here - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS06-061.mspx

Scroll down to Affected Components. Since you didn't post which flavor
of Windows is installed, click the proper link for the specific version
of Windows.
Save the update, close the browser, then install it.
If it fails to install, please post the contents of the KB925672.log
that can be found in the WINDOWS directory (folder).

Hi,

I'm having the same problem here. I've tried doing a bit of reading and
find there are many folks having trouble with this, from from the quite
knowledgeable to the average Joe, like myself. The problem seems to manifest
itself in different ways on different systems. I'm just running XP Pro at
home and the symtpoms I am seeing match those in this post. I have tried the
mentioned fix with no change. I've looked for the mentioned folder for the
log file but haven't found it. I just moved to IE7. The 925672 problem
started right after that.

Any ideas?

KB925672 has been superseded by - Vulnerabilities in Microsoft XML Core
Services 4.0 Could Allow Remote Code Execution (927978)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Download the update from the above link, save it, do NOT run it, close
the browser and then attempt to install it.

Thank you very much. That seemed to do the trick for the 925672 problem;
however, another has cropped up. I received other update notices after the
above fix went through, all but one installed just fine. After I attempt to
install this one I receive an error notice of installation failure. "The
following updates were not installed. Security Update for Flash Player
(KB923789)." Of course, I continue to get the update notice to install the
Flash update. Sort of back where we were, but a little further down the road.

Any ideas for this one?

Thanks again.

I did install the new flash player from Adobe, I didn't remember to include
this information. The update notification still pops up and the update still
fails. Do I now not need the update?

Thank you once again,

This is interesting. My update history shows every attempt to install the
Flash upgrade failed. The update no longer shows up when I scan for updates
and the update notice no longer presents itself. So, It appears my prior two
posts regarding the Flash problem are no longer an issue. I'm still confused
as to why the odd behavior after installing the Adobe version and several
system shutdowns. I should not borrow trouble.

Again, thanks for the help.

Same problem here... Before my explanation, I wanna apologize for my poor
english...

Windows XP Home SP2 Spanish, with all updates, except KB927978 and KB925672
that always appear on notification bar. After install them and restart,
appears another time with the windows update alert on notification bar. This
alert is accompanied with 100% resources for SVCHOST.exe. With process
explorer (now, from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx),
I can see that SVCHOST.exe that block CPU (Celeron 331) has the binary
wuauclt.exe (Windows Update). Surfing on Microsoft Web I found this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914810/en-us and this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916089/en-us

Evidently I uninstall with Add/Remove Programs the hotfixes (925672 and
927978), and the MSXLM4.0 SP2 SDK. Then I installed manualy MSXML 4.0 Service
Pack 2 (SP2) (msxmlspa.msi), restart, and KB927978 and restart. When I start
Windows, SVCHOST.exe with wuauclt.exe is at 99% CPU and notification bar
indicates that "There are 2 critical updates: KB925672 and KB927978".

Sorry for my english, sincerely, and greetings from Galiza, NW coast of
Iberian Peninsula.
