Same problem here... Before my explanation, I wanna apologize for my poor
english...
Windows XP Home SP2 Spanish, with all updates, except KB927978 and KB925672
that always appear on notification bar. After install them and restart,
appears another time with the windows update alert on notification bar. This
alert is accompanied with 100% resources for SVCHOST.exe. With process
explorer (now, from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx),
I can see that SVCHOST.exe that block CPU (Celeron 331) has the binary
wuauclt.exe (Windows Update). Surfing on Microsoft Web I found this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914810/en-us and this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916089/en-us
Evidently I uninstall with Add/Remove Programs the hotfixes (925672 and
927978), and the MSXLM4.0 SP2 SDK. Then I installed manualy MSXML 4.0 Service
Pack 2 (SP2) (msxmlspa.msi), restart, and KB927978 and restart. When I start
Windows, SVCHOST.exe with wuauclt.exe is at 99% CPU and notification bar
indicates that "There are 2 critical updates: KB925672 and KB927978".
Sorry for my english, sincerely, and greetings from Galiza, NW coast of
Iberian Peninsula.
