This update has been downloaded and installed and there is no error message
which the update history shows this is on my pc but continues to pop-up thru
auto update saying it is ready to download.When i check the windows update
site it shows 0.0mbs but can be downloaded again.Is anyone having this
problem with updates showing up that they already have installed?

Exactly what I'm experiencing. How to stop this endless cycle of disruption
from Automatice Updates of seemingly unncessary "request" to install KB931784

1. If "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931784)" is listed in Add/Remove
Programs, uninstall it and reboot.

2. Download the update from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-a9f1eae19b51
(Save it to your desktop; do NOT Run it!)

3. Reboot into Safe Mode.

4. Double-click on the saved file (WindowsXP-KB931784-x86-ENU.exe) to
install it.

5. Reboot into Windows.

Assuming you're on Windows XP SP2:

<selfquote>
Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-a9f1eae19b51

*Save* the file to a folder your harddisk (let me call it "C:\Downloads"),
do *not* execute it from within your browser.

Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB9231784-x86-ENU.exe" /o

The parameter "/o" (o like overwriteOEM) should do the trick for you.
Note the blank between the last quote sign and the parameter /o!
</selfquote>

Bye,
Freudi
